Samui airport transfer to every beach: counter taxi from 500 THB, Grab 200-350 THB to Chaweng, shared minivan 150-250 THB, with drive times and piers.

The cheapest way from Koh Samui Airport (USM) to the beaches is a shared minivan at 150-250 THB (~4.50-7 USD) a person. The simplest is the fixed-price taxi counter: about 500 THB (~14 USD) a car to Chaweng, Bophut and Choeng Mon, rising to 1,520 THB (~43 USD) for the far west. Grab runs 200-350 THB (~5.50-10 USD) to Chaweng. Prices checked 1 October 2026.

Key takeaways

  • Taxi counter: fixed zone fare per car, paid in arrivals. About 500 THB to Chaweng, Bophut, Choeng Mon; 800 Maenam; 900 Lamai; 1,140 Nathon; 1,520 Lipa Noi and Taling Ngam.
  • Grab and Bolt: 200-350 THB (GrabCar) to Chaweng, but you meet the driver outside the terminal on the public road, and west-coast coverage is thin.
  • Songthaews: do not enter the terminal. Walk to the main road and flag one, 50-100 THB a person.
  • Most rides take 10-35 minutes. Only Nathon and the west coast take 30-55 minutes.

How Do You Get from Koh Samui Airport to Your Hotel?

Six ways cover almost every arrival: the taxi counter, a Grab or Bolt car, a hotel car, a pre-booked private car, a shared minivan and a rental car. Times and prices below are for the common run to central Chaweng, 10-20 minutes by road. Other beaches follow in the per-beach table.

Option Cost to Chaweng Wait and pickup Best for
Taxi counter ~500 THB (~14 USD) per car Pay at counter, minutes Fixed price, no app
Grab or Bolt 200-350 THB (~5.50-10 USD) per car Walk to the road pickup Cheapest private car
Hotel transfer 400-800 THB (~11-23 USD) per car Driver with a name sign Late flights, families
Private pre-booked from 435 THB (~12 USD) per car Driver meets you Groups, fixed quote
Shared minivan 150-250 THB (~4.50-7 USD) each Leaves when full Solo, flexible timing
Rental car from about 900 THB (~26 USD) a day Desk in terminal, daytime Staying more than 3 days

For the terminal itself, see the Koh Samui Airport guide. The Chaweng run in depth is in airport to Chaweng.

How Much Is the Airport Taxi Counter?

The taxi counter sells fixed fares per car, split by up to four people, by zone. Zone 1 (Bophut, Chaweng, Choeng Mon) is 500 THB (~14 USD). It climbs to 1,520 THB (~43 USD) for Zone 5. You pay at the counter, take a ticket to the driver, and there is no meter or haggling (Welcome Pickups zone list, checked Oct 2026).

Zone Areas Fare per car
1 Bophut, Chaweng, Choeng Mon 500 THB (~14 USD)
2 Chaweng Noi, Maenam 800 THB (~23 USD)
3 Lamai north and centre, Ban Tai, Bang Po 900 THB (~26 USD)
4 Lamai south, Hua Thanon, Nathon 1,140 THB (~33 USD)
5 Lipa Noi, Taling Ngam 1,520 THB (~43 USD)

Counter fares are a ceiling. Some 2026 guides print lower counter prices (Southeast Asia Simplified lists 300-450 THB to Bophut and Chaweng), while the zone list above is the official one used on this site. Ask for the zone price before you pay and keep the ticket.

Can You Use Grab or Bolt at Samui Airport?

Yes, but not at the terminal kerb. Grab and Bolt cars do not use the forecourt; you meet the driver at a pickup point outside, on the public road, so follow the in-app pin. GrabCar to Chaweng costs 200-350 THB (~5.50-10 USD), roughly 30-60% under the counter. Grab lists 200-350 THB (~5.50-10 USD) for a short island hop and shows the fare upfront.

Do not count on a car on landing: one 2026 guide advises against it, and drivers get scarcer toward the west coast and late at night. Keep the counter as the fallback. Bolt barely operates on Koh Samui, so use Grab: how it works; fares and surge in the taxi guide.

Is a Hotel Transfer Worth It?

Often, for late arrivals and families. Hotel cars cost 400-800 THB (~11-23 USD) a car at most Chaweng properties, sometimes free with certain rates, and resorts further out charge more than the counter. A driver waits with your name on a sign. Send your flight number so delays are tracked, and ask hotels for 48 hours notice.

Compare the quote with the counter and Grab figures above. If the hotel price is double, the counter is a good walk-up alternative.

Is a Pre-Booked Private Transfer Worth It?

It is worth it for a group or a fixed-price promise. Listings in 2026 start near 435 THB (~12 USD) for a three-seat car and 580 THB (~17 USD) for a six-seat van, and run 500-1,200 THB (~14-34 USD) across the island, 10-35 minutes. A van beats two taxis for five or six people.

The saving against the counter is small to Zone 1 and larger to far zones. Check what the quote covers: luggage, waiting time after a late flight and cancellation terms.

Is the Shared Minivan Worth It?

Only if you travel solo and are not in a hurry. Shared minivans sell tickets at the airport transport counter for about 150-250 THB (~4.50-7 USD) a person to Chaweng. They leave when full and drop at several hotels, so allow 30-60 minutes, plus a wait in quiet months.

Can You Catch a Songthaew from the Airport?

Not inside the airport. Songthaews, the shared pickup trucks, do not enter the terminal because the taxi counter holds the pickup rights. You must walk out to the main road and flag one down. Expect 50-100 THB (~1.50-3 USD) a person to a beach (taxi-fares dataset, checked Oct 2026).

That works with a daypack; with big bags or after dark it is rarely worth it. Agree the fare before you climb in. Routes and fares: songthaew guide.

Can You Pick Up a Rental Car or Scooter at the Airport?

A rental car, yes, in daytime. Car-hire desks operate in the terminal during daytime hours only (Samui Airport site, via the airport guide), so a late flight means no desk. Cars start from about 900 THB (~26 USD) a day. Scooters are normally delivered by the shop or collected in town; no scooter desk is listed in the sources used here.

Read the car rental guide and the scooter rental guide first, since insurance and licence rules apply on arrival.

How Long and How Much to Each Beach?

Most beaches are 10-35 minutes from the terminal, which sits in the northeast. The ring road is about 50 km long, so the farther south or west you go, the higher the zone fare. Drive times are approximate for normal traffic.

Beach area Drive time Counter fare per car Notes
Chaweng 10-20 min ~500 THB (~14 USD) Chaweng Noi is Zone 2
Choeng Mon 10-15 min ~500 THB (~14 USD) Zone 1
Bophut and Fisherman’s Village 10-15 min ~500 THB (~14 USD) Zone 1
Bang Rak (Big Buddha) 10-15 min ~500 THB (~14 USD) Not named in the zone list, ask
Plai Laem 10-20 min ask at counter Not named in the zone list
Maenam 20-25 min up to 800 THB (~23 USD) Zone 2
Bang Po 20-25 min up to 900 THB (~26 USD) Zone 3
Lamai 25-35 min up to 900 THB (~26 USD) South end is Zone 4
Hua Thanon 30-40 min up to 1,140 THB (~33 USD) Zone 4
Nathon 30-45 min up to 1,140 THB (~33 USD) Zone 4

How Do You Get from the Airport to the Ferry Piers?

Take the counter taxi to the pier’s zone: Bang Rak is about 500 THB (~14 USD) and 10-15 minutes. Maenam pier falls in the Maenam zone, up to 800 THB (~23 USD). Nathon pier is up to 1,140 THB (~33 USD), 30-45 minutes. Lipa Noi pier is Zone 5, about 1,520 THB (~43 USD). Add 30-45 minutes of check-in margin before departure.

Which pier you need depends on the island you are going to. Bang Rak serves most Koh Phangan and Koh Tao boats; see the ferry piers guide and the Koh Samui to Koh Phangan ferry guide.

FAQ

How much is a taxi from Koh Samui Airport to my hotel?

The counter charges a fixed fare per car by zone: about 500 THB (~14 USD) to Chaweng, Bophut and Choeng Mon, 800 THB (~23 USD) to Maenam, 900 THB (~26 USD) to Lamai, 1,140 THB (~33 USD) to Nathon and 1,520 THB (~43 USD) to the far west. Checked October 2026.

Is Grab cheaper than the airport taxi?

Usually, by 30-60%. Grab to Chaweng is 200-350 THB (~5.50-10 USD) against the counter’s 500 THB. The catch is that cars cannot enter the forecourt, so you walk to a pickup point on the road, and availability on landing is not guaranteed.

Can I take a songthaew from Samui Airport?

Not from the terminal. Songthaews do not enter the airport, so you walk to the main road and flag one down for 50-100 THB (~1.50-3 USD) a person. It suits light luggage in daytime. At night or with big bags, a taxi or Grab is easier.

Is a shared minivan cheaper than a taxi?

Yes per person, at about 150-250 THB (~4.50-7 USD). It leaves only when full and stops at several hotels, so it takes 30-60 minutes instead of 10-20. For two or more people with bags, a 500 THB taxi is often the better deal.

Should I pre-book an airport transfer on Koh Samui?

Not necessarily. The airport has a walk-up counter with fixed fares, so booking ahead mainly helps groups, late flights or fixed quotes. Compare the quote with the counter zone price first, and check what luggage and waiting time it includes.

Can I rent a car at Koh Samui Airport?

Yes, from car-hire desks in the terminal, but only in daytime. A late arrival means taking a taxi to the hotel and collecting the car later. Cars start from about 900 THB (~26 USD) a day; check insurance first.

Checklist

Before you go

Three things worth checking for this journey, each with the guide that covers it.

  1. Book ahead for peak dates

Seats rarely sell out outside Christmas, New Year and Songkran, but the cheap fares go first. Book flights and peak-season boats well ahead.

    When to book
  2. Know the last boat

Boats stop by early evening and some leave only in the morning. A late flight or bus can leave you on the mainland overnight.

    Ferry companies
  3. Agree the fare before you get in

Taxis have no meters, so settle the price for the whole car first. Book through Grab and the price is fixed before you ride.
