Bo Phut Resort & Spa review: 7.5 out of 10 from 168 guest reviews. Top staff and gardens, weak beach and gym. Rooms from 4,900 THB (~140 USD).
7.5 out of 10
Superb named staff, spotless Thai villas and lush gardens, held back by a murky beach, a tired gym and pricey extras.
168 reviews read from 4 sources, checked October 2026
See the full fileBo Phut Resort & Spa scores 7.5 out of 10 in the Samui69 file. It is a 61-room, 4-star beachfront resort in Bophut, about a 10-minute walk from Fisherman’s Village, and it suits couples, honeymooners, wedding groups and repeat guests who value service over a swimming beach. It is a poor match for anyone who wants a clean, clear-water beach, teenagers who need things to do, pet owners and gym users: beach scores 6.8, kids 5.3 and gym 4.2. Standard rooms started around 4,900 THB (~140 USD) a night in the sources checked on 1 October 2026.
Method: 168 Tripadvisor reviews read one by one, 81 of them from April 2025 or later, set against the aggregate scores of HolidayCheck, Trip.com, Booking.com and Hotels.com, which were not read review by review. Checked 1 October 2026. Every judgement below is what guests report or what the file shows.
The resort opened in 2004 and no renovation year turned up in the file. The hotel lists 61 rooms: 32 villas and 29 deluxe rooms, set in about 7 acres of tropical gardens with ponds. That acreage is a hotel claim, though guest photos and reviews agree the grounds are large and green. On paper it offers a large freeform pool and a kids pool, private pools in some villas, a full-service spa, a small fitness centre, the L’Ocean restaurant, the Sala Thai restaurant, a buffet breakfast with an egg station, and free kayaks and paddle boards. Beach weddings are a listed service.
Pets are not allowed. Parking is free on site, and guests mention a valet. Tripadvisor lists babysitting and a Thai cooking course appears in one review, but no kids club is listed by any source checked. The hotel quotes an Amazing Thailand SHA health certificate, a hotel claim that says nothing about sustainability.
Platform scores sit very high. Tripadvisor shows 4.8 out of 5 from 2,376 reviews, with cleanliness at 4.9 and value the lowest subscore at 4.5. HolidayCheck shows 5.9 out of 6 from 453 reviews and a 100% recommendation rate. Trip.com gives 9.5 out of 10 from 126 reviews, Booking.com 9.3 from 644 reviews and Hotels.com 9.8 (the last two from search snippets only, not read in full).
The 168-review sample is where the Samui69 score gets its shape. About 10 of the 168 are from 2013, so they are weighed as old evidence.
| Category | Mentions (+ / -) | Score |
|---|---|---|

| Rooms and design | 70 / 10 | 8.2 |

| Value for money | 12 / 10 | 7.2 |
Staff praise is the loudest signal: at least 10 guests name the same team members, and several describe a third, fourth or fifth stay. Service problems are rare, and the few complaints are about occasional inattentive service. Cleanliness scores 9.1 (55 positive, 6 negative), with twice-daily housekeeping and turn-down mentioned. The soft spots sit in the beach, the gym, the decor and the bar, which is why a 9.7 for staff still lands on an overall 7.5.
Rooms score 8.2 with 70 positive and 10 negative mentions. Guests describe spacious garden villas in traditional Thai style, with dark teak, silk touches and large windows onto planting. The negatives are simple: some find the dark wood dated, which fits a resort that opened in 2004. Condition scores 6.8 because the file shows no renovation, though 25 guests call the property meticulously maintained and 8 point to tired details, such as the gym and the kayaks.
Views are mostly garden and pond. Sea views come from the beachfront villas, the pool and L’Ocean, so the score is 6.5. Guests who want a sea view from the bed should ask for a beachfront category.
Beds are praised (14 positive, 4 negative): comfortable mattresses and pillows, with a few mentions of noisy older air conditioners and thin walls. Bathrooms are large, and some villas have outdoor showers or an outdoor jacuzzi (12 positive, 4 negative). Raised issues: weak shower pressure once, and a shutter window between bedroom and bathroom that costs privacy.
The pool villas deserve a line of their own. Private pools are part of the 32-villa stock, and guests who booked one rate the privacy highly; the quiet score of 7.7 comes mostly from these gardens. The downside is mosquitoes: the file shows a steady stream of tips about repellent near the ponds and on ground-floor terraces.
Cleanliness and staff carry the room experience. Garden villas are reported as spotless, and the living areas in the larger categories are roomy enough for a sofa set and daybed.
The pool is a strength. It is a large freeform pool with a kids section, scoring 8.3 from 45 positive and 5 negative mentions. Guests call it warm and clean, and mention attentive pool staff. The only recurring complaint is loungers reserved early with towels. Sea views from the pool deck and the L’Ocean restaurant nearby are part of the appeal.
The beach is weaker, and it is the main reason the resort does not score above 8. The hotel has a private, cordoned swim area, but 18 of 58 guests who mention the beach are negative. Reports: coarse sand, a murky sea with a slimy or algae-covered bottom, a steep entry and tar or dirt on some arrival days. About 10 guests say they simply used the pool instead. Bophut Bay is shallow and calm, so children can paddle, but swimmers used to clear water will notice. The Bophut beach guide covers the bay, including which stretches are better for swimming.
Location scores 8.9. The airport is about 5 km away, and Fisherman’s Village, with its restaurants and night market, is a 10-minute walk. The Bophut Fisherman’s Village guide covers the evening side of the trip. The downside of the location is a busy main road, noted by 6 guests. For the airport leg, see the how to get to Koh Samui guide.
Breakfast scores 8.7 (60 positive, 9 negative). The buffet has a busy egg station, a wide spread and a terrace by the sea. A few guests call it basic or repetitive, and one noted packaged items and no machine coffee.
Dinner scores 7.2 (35 positive, 12 negative). Sala Thai is the venue guests praise most, but it opens on limited days. Guests report hotel-level prices, and a few weak dishes: rubbery seafood once, and a cold Christmas dinner. L’Ocean is the sea-view option.
The bar is the weakest food and drink category, at 5.2 from 4 positive and 5 negative mentions: weak cocktails and no bar service to loungers. One guest found no on-site bar at all.
The spa scores 7.3 with 28 positive and 10 negative mentions. Therapists are described as skilled, and guests like the choice of scents. The spa area is small, and several guests say massage in Fisherman’s Village is cheaper. The Samui massage guide lists village prices for comparison.
Wellness scores 6.0. Free kayaks and paddle boards are a real perk, but the file reports tired equipment and no organised activity programme. The gym scores 4.2 (1 positive, 6 negative): small, dark, dated and crowded.
Beach. It has the lowest score among the main location features. The sea is reported murky or slimy by about 10 guests, and sand is coarse. Plan on the pool for swimming.
Condition. No renovation is on record since 2004. Guests praise upkeep, but the gym, kayaks and dark decor all show age.
Kids and teenagers. Kids score 5.3. There is a kids pool and some children’s activities, but no club, and guests say little is on offer for teenagers. Six guests are positive and six negative.
Extras. Food, spa and laundry are called pricey. Value scores 7.2 with 12 positive and 10 negative mentions. Tripadvisor guests rate value at 4.5 out of 5, the lowest of its subscores.
Bar and gym. The bar (5.2) and gym (4.2) are the two categories below 6 other than pets and sustainability. Sustainability scores 4.0: soap dispensers and one guest mention, but no certificate.
Mosquitoes. A recurring tip near the ponds and on ground-floor terraces.

Tripadvisor 4.8 out of 5 from 2,376 reviews (Tripadvisor page), and HolidayCheck 5.9 out of 6 from 453 reviews (HolidayCheck page). Both are higher than the Samui69 score because that score also weighs the beach, condition, gym and value. Rooms and offers are listed on the official site.
