Verdict: Chaweng Regent Beach Resort scores 7.2 out of 10

Chaweng Regent Beach Resort scores 7.2 out of 10 in the Samui69 file. It is a low-rise beachfront resort in the middle of Chaweng, about 15 minutes from the airport by the hotel’s own figure, and it suits families with small children, wedding and honeymoon parties, and guests who want yoga, Muay Thai and Chaweng’s restaurants within walking distance. It is a poor match for light sleepers and anyone after a silent retreat: quiet scores 5.0, the lowest in the file, and condition 6.0. Rooms were reported from about 4,400 THB (~126 USD) a night on 30 September 2026, with 10% service and 7% tax added on top.

Method: 180 guest reviews read one by one, 170 on Tripadvisor and 10 on HolidayCheck, with 32% from the last 18 months. Booking.com and Google gave aggregate scores only, through search snippets. Checked 30 September 2026. Every judgement below is what guests report or what the file shows.

What does the brochure say?

The resort sits on Chaweng Beach at 155/4, on the main beach road. Published figures differ slightly: Tripadvisor lists 155 rooms and HolidayCheck 145. Aggregator listings give an opening year of 1990 and a renovation around 2010, not the hotel’s own site. Rooms range over about ten types, from Premier rooms to beachfront suites and villas, most with a balcony or terrace.

On paper the facilities are two pools with a swim-up bar, the Chom Talay beach restaurant for breakfast, Red Fish, a beach pool bar, the Escape Spa with spa villa suites, a fitness centre, a kids club and playroom, and free yoga and kayaks. The official site also lists cooking classes, a hotel claim that no guest in the file confirms. Pets are not allowed, and parking is free on site. The airport transfer is listed at 500 THB (~14 USD) per van for two people.

What do guests actually report?

Platform scores are good but not spectacular. Tripadvisor shows 4.2 out of 5 from 2,546 reviews, ranked 16 of 96 hotels in Chaweng and a 2026 Travellers’ Choice. Its subscores run location 4.7, cleanliness 4.4, service 4.3, rooms 4.2, sleep 4.2 and value 4.0. HolidayCheck gives 5.4 out of 6 from 361 reviews, with 96% recommending the hotel, and the 10 latest reviews read are all from 2026. Booking.com shows 8.5 out of 10 from 2,511 reviews and Google 4.3 out of 5 from 977, both as snippets only.

The 180-review sample explains where the Samui69 score lands:

Category Mentions (+ / -) Score
Staff and service 92 / 12 8.9
Cleanliness 62 / 8 9.0
Breakfast 55 / 10 8.5
Pool 38 / 14 7.6
Quiet and privacy 12 / 26 5.0
Value for money 18 / 16 6.4

Staff are the loudest signal. Guests name Yao, May, Air and Jeen, and many say the team remembers repeat visitors. About 15 guests praise wedding planner Air by name. Complaints are few: a rude reception case, a ground-floor request refused, and one guest who reports a 5,050 THB (~144 USD) deposit refund still unpaid months later. Cleanliness is the second pillar: guests describe spotless rooms and even clean pool toilets, with only a few mosquito and late-housekeeping remarks.

What are the rooms and villas like?

Rooms score 7.4, with 50 positive and 20 negative mentions. Guests call them large and tidy, with balconies or terraces in most categories. The negatives repeat: dated fittings, too few power outlets, and entry-level rooms without a balcony. Tripadvisor rooms sit at 4.2 out of 5, which matches the file.

Sleep is split: 10 positive and 12 negative mentions, for a score of 6.3. Some guests praise comfortable beds. Others report a hard mattress, a noisy AC compressor, or aircraft and nightlife noise. Bathrooms score 6.6. The outdoor and jacuzzi tubs in some rooms are liked, while worn fixtures and, in one report, a drain smell when the AC was off, pull the score back.

Condition scores 6.0 with 10 positive and 18 negative mentions. The resort dates from 1990 and was renovated around 2010, and guests describe aging facilities, tired villas and some AC and outlet faults, although the garden is very well kept. A pool renovation closure was reported in 2024.

Grounds score 8.8 (42 positive, 4 negative): lush gardens, a flat low-rise layout and a calm feel despite the central address.

How good are the pools and the beach?

There are two pools and a swim-up bar. The pool scores 7.6, with 38 positive and 14 negative mentions. The recurring complaint is sunbeds: at least 8 guests report reserved loungers or a shortage, and some find the shallow end dominated by children. Others call the pools clean and pleasant.

The beach scores 6.4 (35 positive, 22 negative). The bay is reef-protected and calm, which small children handle well, and kayaks and paddleboards are free. The other side is tide and erosion: guests report shallow water at low tide, rocky patches and storm debris. Anyone who wants a wide swimming beach at every tide should read the Chaweng beach guide first. Location scores 8.6 and is the best physical number in the file: beachfront, a short walk to food, shops and nightlife, with the airport to Chaweng guide covering the 15-minute ride.

What are the food, drink and spa like?

Breakfast scores 8.5 (55 positive, 10 negative), the best food result. It is a buffet at Chom Talay on the beach with sushi, Western and Thai dishes. Guests report a single coffee machine queue and a few call it basic against the price tier.

Dinner is more mixed, at 7.0 with 18 positive and 10 negative mentions. Beach candlelit dinners and Italian dishes are praised; a few guests find food average for the tier or mention a change at Red Fish. The swim-up bar and beach bar are liked, with pool food prices called fair, but the file shows little on evening entertainment.

The Escape Spa scores 8.0 (18 positive, 3 negative), and named therapists are praised for Thai, hot oil and head massages. One guest found prices high. The fitness centre scores 7.8 and guests describe it as modern. Wellness scores 8.4: free yoga, Pilates, Muay Thai and partner stretching, with instructors Oil and Dream named by at least 6 guests. Some classes are charged, and motorised watersports are limited.

Where does Chaweng Regent Beach Resort fall short?

Noise. It is the weakest score in the file: 12 positive and 26 negative mentions. Guests report planes from about 8 am, at least 10 of them, and club music next door in some rooms until the early hours. The resort sits by Chaweng nightlife, so see the Chaweng nightlife guide before you pick a room. Others say the gardens stay peaceful, so garden-side rooms are the safer ask.

Condition. Fittings and rooms show their age, as above.

Value. Reported rates ran from about 4,400 to 10,800 THB (~126 to 309 USD), and a Booking snippet showed rooms from 3,144 THB (~90 USD). The 10% service charge and 7% tax come on top, about 17%, and guests mention extras and hidden charges. The score is 6.4 with 18 positive and 16 negative mentions, so guests split between “excellent value” and “pricey for dated rooms”.

Sustainability. The hotel claims no single-use plastic bottles or straws and a waste plan. No certification was found, and only two guests touch the topic, so it scores 4.5.

Access and Wi-Fi. Both have little data. The layout is flat and low-rise, but one guest with a stroller was refused a ground-floor room, and two guests call the free Wi-Fi slow.

Who should book, and who should not?

Book it if you are:

  • a family with small children who want a calm bay, a kids club and a family-friendly staff
  • planning a wedding or honeymoon, given the wedding planner praise and beach dinners
  • a guest who values yoga, Pilates and Muay Thai on site
  • someone who wants Chaweng restaurants and shops on foot from a garden setting

Skip it if you are:

  • a light sleeper or after a silent retreat
  • wanting a wide open swimming beach at all tides
  • travelling with a pet
  • counting baht, since dated rooms and the 17% on top weigh on value

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Staff service: 92 positive mentions, many by name, repeat guests remembered
  • Very clean, with lush well-kept gardens and two pools
  • Wide beachfront breakfast plus free yoga, kayaks, Pilates and a kids club

Cons

  • Noise from planes and Chaweng nightlife, about 26 negative mentions
  • Sunbed shortage with reserved loungers, and a shallow or rocky beach at low tide
  • Dated rooms and fittings, with 17% service and tax on top of rates

What are the alternatives?

  • OZO Chaweng Samui: also on Chaweng beach, scoring 6.8 in the file. Staff are praised, but guests report small rooms and pool-bar noise, with rates from about 2,520 THB (~72 USD).
  • Hyatt Regency Koh Samui: scores 7.0 with five pools and a kids club, but about 38 guests call its beach rocky and there is no walkable dining.
