See the full fileBandara Spa Resort & Pool Villas, Samui scores 7.3 out of 10 in the Samui69 file. It is a 168-room, 4-star beachfront resort in Bophut, about 15-20 minutes from the airport and a short walk from Fisherman’s Village. It suits families with children, guests who rank staff and spa above design, and couples who book a pool villa. It is a weaker match for light sleepers, guests after a pristine new build and anyone counting baht at the restaurants: condition scores 6.0, quiet 6.3, beach 6.3 and value 6.7. Rooms started around 7,600 THB (~217 USD) a night in the sources checked on 1 October 2026.
Method: 165 guest reviews read one by one, all of them on Tripadvisor and about 80% from the last 18 months, set against the aggregate scores of HolidayCheck, Booking.com, Trip.com and Kayak (read as summary figures only). Checked 1 October 2026. Every judgement below is what guests report or what the file shows.
The resort sits on Bophut Bay in the island’s north, with 168 rooms spread over large tropical gardens. Room types run from Deluxe and Tropical Canopy rooms to Family Suites and the Courtyard and Garden Pool Villas, with floor areas from about 49 sqm for a deluxe room to 104 sqm for a pool villa. On paper the hotel lists four pools including an adults-only zone, the Monkey Club kids club, Shine Spa, a fitness centre and a beach restaurant called Chom Dao. The hotel says it won the 14th Kinnaree Award, a Thai tourism quality award, and that it treats garden wastewater and uses organic pest control. Those two claims are hotel claims: the file has one guest confirming organic pest control and nothing on the wastewater.
The opening year is not stated in the sources, but guests and photos place the main buildings in the 2000s. Free parking is on site. No pet policy was found.
Platform scores sit high. Tripadvisor shows 4.6 out of 5 from 4,102 reviews. HolidayCheck shows 5.7 out of 6 from 779 reviews with 97% recommending the hotel. Booking.com shows 8.6 out of 10 from 1,853 reviews, Trip.com 8.9 from 165 and Kayak 8.5 from 1,761. The last three were seen as search snippets, so treat them as headline figures only.
The 165-review sample explains why the Samui69 score is lower than those numbers:
| Category | Mentions (+ / -) | Score |
|---|---|---|
| Staff and service | 112 / 14 | 9.1 |
| Kids and families | 40 / 4 | 9.3 |
| Spa and massage | 34 / 3 | 8.8 |
| Breakfast | 58 / 14 | 8.4 |
| Condition and age | 12 / 22 | 6.0 |
| Quiet and privacy | 14 / 20 | 6.3 |
| Value for money | 26 / 27 | 6.7 |
Staff praise is the loudest signal: guests name Kitti, Steffen and other team members in dozens of reviews as the reason a stay went well, and reports of problems solved quickly outnumber the complaints. The negatives are a few billing and checkout disputes and some staff described as impassive. The weak spots sit in the buildings and the extras. Condition is the clearest one, with 22 negative mentions against 12 positive: tired rooms, rust, peeling paint and salt wear in the bar, alongside guests who say the place is well kept for its age.
Rooms score 7.2, with 52 positive and 18 negative mentions. Guests describe spacious family rooms and villas. The negatives are little storage, few drawers and finishes that look dated. Beds score 7.3: most guests are comfortable, while a handful mention air-conditioner noise, road noise or neighbours, and a few blame cicadas.
The villas are the upgrade guests talk about. The Courtyard Plunge Pool Villas and Garden Pool Villas have a private plunge pool and a walled terrace, and the hotel photos show canopy beds and sliding glass doors onto the deck. Couples who want privacy tend to pick these, which is why the couples score is 6.4 and not lower: 14 guests praise the villa privacy or honeymoon setups.
Family suites are the other room that matters. The hotel photos show bunk beds, a separate parents’ bedroom and a children’s corner, and families give the kids category 9.3 with 40 positive against 4 negative mentions. Bathrooms are the soft spot at 6.3: guests mention weak shower pressure, worn grout, drain odour and an open design with little privacy. Cleanliness scores 8.2 with 58 positive and 15 negative mentions. Daily housekeeping and spotless grounds are praised, and the complaints are mosquitoes, drain smells and missing tea or sugar refills. One 2026 report names a mouldy food item.
The pool is the reason many families pick the resort. It scores 8.0 with 40 positive and 11 negative mentions. Guests like the well-kept pools and the plunge pools in the villas. They also report that the main pool is busy and warm, that the chlorine is strong, that the adults zone is small and that the baby pool lacks shade.
The beach scores 6.3 (24 positive, 17 negative). The resort has its own beachfront with loungers and a beach bar, yet about 17 guests mention coarse sand, seaweed, murky water in some months, vendors approaching guests or a narrow beach with limited loungers. For the wider bay, see the Bophut beach guide. Views score 6.6: guests enjoy the sea view at breakfast and the beach bar, while many rooms face gardens or the road.
Location scores 8.6 with 62 positive and 8 negative mentions. The airport is about 15-20 minutes away and guests walk to the restaurants and night market of Bophut Fisherman’s Village, roughly 0.5 mile from the gate. The complaint is the road in front, which reaches some rooms. Grounds score 8.6, praised for lush gardens, and the flip side is a steep slope in places and some rooms far from the pool. For transfers and taxis around the island, read the getting around guide.
Breakfast scores 8.4 (58 positive, 14 negative). The buffet has a wide spread with a sea view, villa guests get an a la carte menu, and the complaints are cold items on some days, a hectic room when the hall is full of families and a villa menu that repeats.
Dinner is the split verdict. The restaurants score 6.6 with 20 positive and 18 negative mentions. Guests praise authentic Thai dishes and the Saturday BBQ with a fire show, then complain about prices above the village outside, slow service and cold meals. Around 15 reviews mention high food and drink prices, and several advise eating in Fisherman’s Village. One rule to know: outside food is not allowed at the pool. The beach bar and pool bar score 6.9: a happy hour is liked, the bar closes at 22:30 and drinks are described as expensive and inconsistent.
The spa is one of the best-rated parts: Shine Spa scores 8.8 with 34 positive and 3 negative mentions. Guests praise the chocolate scrub and massages and name individual therapists, with a note that prices felt high at first. Wellness scores 7.6 with free yoga and meditation reported, a Thai boxing session, a cooking class and Thai lessons, but few daily motorised water sports. The gym is the weakest facility at 5.8: small, crowded, and two broken treadmills were reported once.
Condition. The lowest physical score. Guests report tired rooms, rust, peeling paint and renovation works in places. Two 1-2 star reviews (2024 and 2026) cite mould, drains, maintenance and management problems. The file shows an ageing resort with good housekeeping, not a failing one, but anyone who pays for a fresh build will notice.
Beach and noise. The beach has coarse sand, seasonal seaweed and vendors. Quiet scores 6.3 with 14 positive and 20 negative mentions: the villa zone is calm, while road traffic, children and cicadas are the recurring complaints. Four guests without children found it noisy or too busy with kids, and the fire show on BBQ night leaves smoke for some.
Value. The score is 6.7 (26 positive, 27 negative). Guests like the room value with breakfast and, in villas, the minibar. They call food and drinks pricey and peak periods such as New Year poor value. Rooms ran from about 7,600 to 12,000 THB (~217-343 USD) in the sources checked. The top of that range is a rough estimate for villas in peak season.
Access. Some barrier-free rooms are praised on HolidayCheck, but guests also report slopes and long walks. Sustainability scores 5.0: the file holds one guest confirmation of organic pest control and no certification.

Yes, it is the category where the file scores highest. Kids and families score 9.3, with 40 positive and 4 negative mentions, and guests name the Monkey Club staff. Expect crowds at breakfast and at the main pool in peak weeks.
Yes, a resort beachfront on Bophut Bay with loungers and a beach bar. Guests report coarse sand, seaweed or murky water in some months and vendors. It scores 6.3, so it works as a place to sit more than a place to swim all day.
About 0.5 mile on foot, and guests say they walk to the restaurants and night market. The airport is about 15-20 minutes by road.
Yes. The Courtyard Plunge Pool and Garden Pool Villa types have private plunge pools, and the largest pool villa is about 104 sqm according to the hotel.
Guests say so. Around 15 reviews mention high food and drink prices, and several suggest eating in Fisherman’s Village. Breakfast is the exception: it scores 8.4.
Tripadvisor 4.6 out of 5 from 4,102 reviews (Tripadvisor page), and HolidayCheck 5.7 out of 6 from 779 reviews with 97% recommending (HolidayCheck page). Both are higher than the Samui69 score because that score weights condition, quiet and value, where the complaints gather.
Each hotel is scored on 26 counts from 0 to 10. Verifiable facts set the starting point, then what guests report moves it up or down.
