See the full fileMelati Beach Resort & Spa scores 7.1 out of 10 in the Samui69 file. It is a 77-room, 5-star resort on Thongson Bay at the north-eastern tip of Koh Samui, and it suits honeymooners, families with young children and guests who want to stay inside a quiet, green property. It is a poor match for anyone who wants to walk to shops and restaurants, for reduced mobility, and for guests who expect new-build finish: location scores 4.8, condition 5.6 and access 4.6. Rooms started around 4,700 THB (~134 USD) a night in the sources checked on 1 October 2026.
Method: 189 guest reviews read one by one, 174 on Tripadvisor and 15 on Trip.com, about a third of them from the last 18 months. Aggregate scores from HolidayCheck, Agoda and Hotels.com were taken from the listing pages and snippets without reading the individual reviews. Checked 1 October 2026. Every judgement below is what guests report or what the file shows.
The resort sits in Bophut district on a private, limited-access beach of about 400 m in Thongson Bay. Published figures give 77 rooms, suites and private pool villas: Grand Deluxe rooms of 77-95 sqm, pool villas of 143-200 sqm and a 347 sqm Presidential Suite. On paper there are two pools, one of them an adults-only serenity pool, two restaurants, a spa beside the waterfalls, a gym, a kids club, free fitness classes and free water sports. The hotel says it reopened in 2023, and it holds the Thai SHA Plus+ hygiene label. The airport is about 20 minutes away by road.
Pets are not allowed per agent listings. Parking is free on site. The no-single-use-plastic-bottle policy appears on a third-party listing and counts as a hotel claim, because no guest in the file confirms it.
Platform scores are good. Tripadvisor shows 4.5 out of 5 from 2,206 reviews, with cleanliness and sleep at 4.6 and value and location at 4.2. HolidayCheck shows 5.7 out of 6 from 176 reviews. Trip.com shows 8.9 out of 10 from 100 reviews. Agoda shows 8.5 from 387 reviews (listing snippet only).
The 189-review sample explains where the Samui69 score of 7.1 comes from:
| Category | Mentions (+ / -) | Score |
|---|---|---|
| Staff and service | 125 / 19 | 8.9 |
| Pools | 45 / 9 | 8.3 |
| Rooms and design | 70 / 22 | 7.6 |
| Location and access | 8 / 38 | 4.8 |
| Condition and age | 10 / 38 | 5.6 |
| Value for money | 25 / 22 | 6.8 |
Staff praise is the loudest signal in the file: named staff appear throughout, and at least 25 honeymoon or wedding stays single out the event planner Air and her team. The complaints are narrower: limited English at reception and the restaurant, one pushy waitress, slow restaurant service, and management that guests call unresponsive on repair faults. A December 2023 management reply said the gym and reception issues had already been addressed.
The weak scores gather in two places. About 30 guests mention the remote location and the taxi cost, and around 35 mention ageing or maintenance faults. The resort handles people well and the buildings less well, which is why the overall figure lands at 7.1 and not above 8.
Rooms score 7.6, with 70 positive and 22 negative mentions. Guests describe very spacious villas, balcony bathtubs and large bedrooms. The negatives are old paintwork, worn fittings and gaps around doors that let insects in. Sleep is scored 7.5: Tripadvisor sleep sits at 4.6 out of 5, with a few firm-bed and squeaky-AC mentions, plus jet ski and aircraft noise.
Bathrooms score 6.6 (12 positive, 11 negative). The outdoor and balcony tubs are the draw. Several stays report roof and bathroom leaks in rain, slow hot water, slippery showers and cracked walls, and one guest reports mouldy towels.
Cleanliness scores 8.1 (62 positive, 15 negative). Guests praise twice-daily housekeeping with turndown sweets. The minority reports mention insects, mosquitoes, one cockroach, toiletries not replenished and a dirty shuttle. Condition is the lowest physical score at 5.6: the hotel says it reopened in 2023, yet about 38 guests describe tired villas, peeling paint, electrical faults and noisy or failing air conditioning.
The pools are the strongest physical feature: 45 positive and 9 negative mentions, a score of 8.3. Guests describe two resort pools, one adults-only, and private pools in the villas, all rarely crowded. The complaints are a sun lounger squeeze at busy times, a pool-chemistry comment, a cold private pool and debris in open water.
The beach scores 6.3 (30 positive, 18 negative). Guests like the soft sand and calm water. Others call it small and shallow, with stones in the water, jet ski noise, murky water and plastic after bad weather. The resort says jet skis are paid extras, and free kayaks and boats are included. For the wider bay, see the Thongson Bay beach guide.
Grounds score 7.7: lush gardens and waterfalls, buggy service, and many steps across uneven terrain. Accessibility scores 4.6 because those steps are flagged repeatedly for guests with limited mobility. The airport is about 20 minutes away (see Koh Samui airport), and for the island’s evening-market side, read the Bophut Fisherman’s Village guide.
Breakfast scores 7.5 (38 positive, 14 negative), a buffet plus a la carte menu that most guests call varied. A few find it repetitive after several days and rate the eggs poorly.
Restaurants score 7.4 (52 positive, 22 negative). The Thai restaurant, themed nights and the beach BBQ with a fire show are the named hits. The negatives: high prices, two menus that look alike, slow service and inconsistent handling of gluten and dietary requests. The bar scores 7.2: friendly bartenders, a happy hour, pricey drinks.
The spa scores 8.2 with 30 positive and 6 negative mentions. Guests praise the therapists. The complaints are a delayed start, a short massage and hotel pricing. Wellness scores 7.8: free yoga, Pilates and boxing classes, Muay Thai, Thai cooking classes, free kayaks and boats, and bikes. The gym scores 5.8: classes are liked, equipment is called outdated and was once out of order.
Location. This is the worst score in the file: 4.8, with 8 positive and 38 negative mentions. Guests report a taxi to Chaweng of about 15-20 minutes for 300-500 THB (~9-14 USD), and a free shuttle with a limited schedule that needs booking ahead. Plan to eat and drink mostly on the property, and see the getting around guide for transport options.
Condition. The 2023 refresh does not show for about 38 guests: peeling paint, faulty sockets, AC faults and leaks. Management follow-up on faults is described as uneven.
Wi-Fi. Free, but 11 guests report dropouts or re-login trouble against 5 who say it works well. Some used an eSIM instead.
Access. Buggies are on call, but many steps and uneven paths are a poor fit for reduced mobility.
Value. The score is 6.8 (25 positive, 22 negative). Pool villas are called fair value, and the free water sports and shuttle help. Food, drinks, taxis and spa are pricey, and several guests call the five-star price high for ageing rooms.

Pros
Cons
The file scores it 7.1 out of 10. It is worth it for couples and families who want service, big villas and a quiet bay, and less so for guests who want to leave the property every evening or who pay for a new-looking room.
The airport is about 20 minutes by road. Chaweng is a 15-20 minute taxi ride, which guests report at 300-500 THB (~9-14 USD). The hotel runs a free shuttle to Chaweng on a limited schedule.
Yes. Guests rate the kids club and family pool villas well (22 positive, 7 negative). The club closes around 5 pm and is described as weak for older children.
Yes. The hotel lists pool villas of 143-200 sqm with private pools. Guests praise the size, and a few report a cold private pool or debris. See the honeymoon resorts guide for other private-pool stays.
Tripadvisor 4.5 out of 5 from 2,206 reviews (Tripadvisor page), HolidayCheck 5.7 out of 6 from 176 reviews (HolidayCheck page), and Trip.com 8.9 out of 10 from 100 reviews (Trip.com page). The Samui69 score is lower because it weights location, condition and access, where the complaints gather.
