No direct flight from the UK to Koh Samui. Best routes via Bangkok, Singapore, the Gulf or Istanbul take 16-22 hours, with return fares from about £800.

There is no direct flight from the UK to Koh Samui. Samui’s runway is 2,100 m and takes only narrow-body jets and turboprops, so every journey has at least one stop. The simplest route is a nonstop from London to Bangkok (about 11.5 hours), then a Bangkok Airways flight of 75-95 minutes: roughly 16-18 hours door to door, from about £800 (~1,040 USD) return in aggregator listings (checked 1 October 2026). One-stop routes via the Gulf or Istanbul can be cheaper but take 19-22 hours.

Key takeaways

  • Nonstops to Bangkok in 2026: Thai (Heathrow, 14 a week), EVA Air (Heathrow, 7 a week), British Airways (Gatwick, 3 a week in summer, 6 in winter).
  • Best one-ticket routes: BA, Thai, Singapore Airlines, Qatar, Emirates or Turkish to Bangkok, then Bangkok Airways, with your bag checked through to Samui.
  • Bangkok Airways pauses Singapore to Samui from 25 October 2026 to 28 March 2027. Scoot (about 2 hours) still flies it.
  • Return fares in aggregator listings run about £500-£1,150 (~650-1,500 USD). Samui-leg fares alone are 2,300-6,600 THB (~66-189 USD) one-way.

Is There a Direct Flight from the UK to Koh Samui?

No. No airline flies from any UK airport to Samui (USM) without a stop, and none is planned in the sources checked. Bangkok Airways owns the airport, and its jets and ATR turboprops serve Bangkok, Phuket, Krabi, Chiang Mai, Singapore and Hong Kong, not Europe. Flying from continental Europe instead? See flights from Europe to Koh Samui.

Your real choice is where to change planes. The table compares the main routes from London, with total time counted from take-off at the UK airport to landing at Samui, connection included.

Route Total time Tickets Return fare (aggregators)
Nonstop to Bangkok + Bangkok Airways 16-18 h One ticket possible £800-£1,150 (~1,040-1,500 USD)
Via Singapore + Scoot or Bangkok Airways 17-20 h Usually two tickets £800-£1,200 (~1,040-1,560 USD)
Via Doha, Dubai or Abu Dhabi + Bangkok 19-22 h One ticket possible £550-£900 (~715-1,170 USD)
Via Istanbul + Bangkok 19-21 h One ticket possible £550-£900 (~715-1,170 USD)

Times are built from published segment lengths plus a 2-3 hour connection, not from one timetable. Fares are “from” and “typical” figures that aggregators show, so treat them as a guide.

Which Airlines Fly Nonstop from the UK to Bangkok in 2026?

Three airlines: Thai Airways and EVA Air from Heathrow, British Airways from Gatwick. Thai runs 14 flights a week (listings show TG911 at 11:50 arriving 06:15, and TG917 at 21:25 arriving 15:00, on Boeing 777-300ERs from Terminal 2). EVA runs 7 a week from Heathrow. Flight time is 11h25-11h55 (FlightsFrom and Google Flights listings, 2026).

British Airways returned to Bangkok from Gatwick in October 2024 and made the route year-round for 2026: 3 flights a week in summer and 6 a week in winter (BA press office and TTR Weekly, August 2025). There is no confirmed nonstop from Manchester, Edinburgh or Birmingham, so those passengers connect first, as covered below.

Should I Fly Nonstop to Bangkok and Connect on Bangkok Airways?

For most UK travellers, yes. It is the shortest route, has one change, and the Samui leg has about 21 Bangkok Airways flights a day, 75-95 minutes, at 2,300-6,600 THB (~66-189 USD) one-way (FlightConnections and OutThailand, 2026). Total time is 16-18 hours with a 2-3 hour connection.

One ticket works because Bangkok Airways has codeshare deals with several of the UK-Bangkok carriers:

  • British Airways: since August 2024 BA sells Bangkok Airways flights to Samui, Phuket and Chiang Mai under BA flight numbers on one ticket (BA press release, 7 August 2024).
  • Thai Airways: sells seats on Bangkok Airways flights under TG codes (such as TG5926) under an agreement from January 2023 (AeroRoutes).
  • Singapore Airlines: codeshares on Bangkok Airways flights, including Singapore to Samui, since September 2023.

With a one-ticket booking your bag is normally checked through to Samui. Bangkok Airways economy includes 20 kg checked and a 5 kg cabin bag per most sources, some sites quote 7 kg (baggagepolicies.com, 2026). Bangkok Airways publishes a minimum connection time of 75 minutes at Suvarnabhumi; another source quotes 90. After 11 hours in the air, an immigration queue can eat an hour, so book 2-3 hours. Is Singapore a Good Way to Reach Koh Samui from the UK?

It works, but it is rarely cheapest or simplest. London to Singapore is about 13 hours nonstop on British Airways, Qantas or Singapore Airlines from Heathrow. Then Scoot flies Singapore to Samui 4 times a day in about 2 hours (E190-E2 jets; seat-only fares from about 4,500 THB, ~129 USD, bags extra). Total time is 17-20 hours.

Bangkok Airways pauses Singapore to Samui from 25 October 2026 to 28 March 2027 (Aerotelegraph, June 2026), and Singapore Airlines’ codeshare on that route goes with it. In winter, Scoot is the only Singapore to Samui option, and Scoot is a separate ticket for most UK-origin bookings, so your bag is collected and re-checked at Changi. Leave at least 3 hours. Details of the Singapore leg are in international flights to Koh Samui.

Is a Gulf Hub the Easiest One-Ticket Route to Samui?

It is often the cheapest one-ticket route. Qatar Airways, Emirates and Etihad fly from London, Manchester, Birmingham and Edinburgh (Qatar and Emirates) to Doha, Dubai and Abu Dhabi, then to Bangkok. Segment times add up to about 19-22 hours with Samui. Qatar Airways and Bangkok Airways have codeshared on Samui since May 2013, and Emirates sells Bangkok to Samui on its own ticket with its baggage allowance (Emirates partner page, 2026).

For London via Doha, British Airways’ Samui page quotes about 15 hours. That is shorter than the segments imply (London to Doha 6h45, Doha to Bangkok 6h55, plus the connection and the Samui leg), so plan for 19-22 hours.

Etihad lists Bangkok Airways as a codeshare partner too, but confirm Samui is bookable on your date before paying. Airlines change partner lists, and Bangkok Airways does not publish a full text list on its investor page.

Is Istanbul Worth It for Samui?

Sometimes. Turkish Airlines flies to Istanbul from Heathrow (47 flights a week), Gatwick (28), Manchester (28), Edinburgh (14) and Birmingham, then to Bangkok about 17 times a week in 9h10 (FlightConnections and Business Traveller, 2026). Turkish and Bangkok Airways started a codeshare in August 2019 covering Bangkok to Samui. Total time is 19-21 hours.

Its advantage is regional coverage: Edinburgh and Birmingham passengers get a frequent single change. The disadvantage is a long Istanbul to Bangkok sector with fewer daily departures than Qatar. Check the codeshare is still sold for your date, since the 2019 announcement is the latest source found.

What Is the Cheapest Way to Get to Koh Samui from the UK?

Fly one-stop to Bangkok on the cheapest carrier, then take the cheapest Samui option. Etihad, Finnair, Air France and Emirates list Manchester or Birmingham to Bangkok from about £555-£700 (~720-910 USD) in 2026 (Expedia and airline pages). Fares vary by date.

For the last leg you have three choices:

  • Bangkok Airways from Suvarnabhumi: 2,300-6,600 THB (~66-189 USD), fastest.
  • U-Tapao (Pattaya) combo: Bangkok Airways flies U-Tapao to Samui daily on the 2026 summer schedule (17:20-18:25, to 24 October). The flight is 960-3,135 THB and the road transfer from Bangkok 550-850 THB, 3-5 hours (OutThailand).
  • Overland: train or bus to Surat Thani, then ferry. It is slowest, but cheapest. See how to get to Koh Samui and Surat Thani to Samui.

Separate tickets cost you the baggage protection. Weigh a 100-200 USD saving against missing a connection.

Should I Buy a Through Ticket or Separate Tickets?

Buy one ticket if you can. On a through ticket, the airline must rebook you if the first flight is late, and your bag goes to Samui. On separate tickets, a delayed long-haul flight can make you miss the domestic one with no protection, and you collect, clear immigration and re-check the bag at Bangkok.

Rule of thumb: through ticket, plan 2-3 hours at Bangkok. Separate tickets, plan 4 hours and keep the Samui flight in a flexible fare. Bangkok Airways has dozens of daily seats on the trunk route, so rebooking a missed flight is usually the same day.

What About Manchester, Edinburgh and Birmingham?

All three connect first, then follow the same routes. Manchester: No confirmed nonstop to Bangkok was found; fares from £573 (Etihad via Abu Dhabi), £607 (Finnair), £694 (Air France) and £913 (Thai, with a change), per airline pages in 2026. Turkish flies Manchester to Istanbul 28 times a week.

Edinburgh: Qatar Airways flies to Doha 10 times a week (June 2026) and Turkish to Istanbul 14 a week. Birmingham: Emirates lists Bangkok from £764 return, and Qatar and Turkish also fly from there.

If your UK airport has a London shuttle, a separate London ticket usually adds cost and risk. Use a single booking via a Gulf or Turkish hub, then add Bangkok Airways at Bangkok.

How Much Are Flights from the UK to Koh Samui by Season?

Aggregator return fares range from about £500 to £1,150 (~650-1,500 USD), with big swings by date. Skyscanner showed a return from £502 and one-way fares from £363; Kayak shows typical £801-£1,143 for Stansted; EVA Air listed fares from £947 (all checked 30 September 2026).

Aggregators disagree about the cheapest month. Skyscanner points to April (cheapest one-way £249), Kayak to November (average return £791), and Google Flights to January. Christmas, New Year and UK school holidays are the dearest weeks; for Samui’s weather by month see when to go, which also covers how far ahead to book. Add 2,300-6,600 THB (~66-189 USD) per leg if your ticket is separate from Bangkok.

What Do I Need for Entry and Arrival at Samui Airport?

UK passport holders can enter Thailand without a visa for up to 30 days from 15 September 2026 (down from 60) and must submit the free Thailand Digital Arrival Card online first (GOV.UK entry requirements, 2026). Rules for extensions and the card are in the visa guide.

On arrival, the airport is 2 km from Chaweng and a short drive from Bophut. Passengers connecting through Bangkok on a through ticket usually clear immigration at Bangkok, so ask at check-in. Samui has separate domestic and international terminals, about 50 m apart. Taxis are fixed-price at the arrivals counter. The Samui Airport guide covers the terminal, and all routes list every airline.

FAQ

Is there a direct flight from London to Koh Samui?

No. Samui’s 2,100 m runway only takes narrow-body jets and turboprops, so no airline flies it from the UK. You change at Bangkok, Singapore, a Gulf hub or Istanbul. The quickest is a nonstop to Bangkok on Thai, EVA or British Airways, then Bangkok Airways for 75-95 minutes.

How long does it take to fly from London to Koh Samui?

Expect 16-18 hours via a Bangkok nonstop with a 2-3 hour connection, and 19-22 hours via the Gulf or Istanbul. Flight time alone is about 11.5 hours to Bangkok plus 75-95 minutes to Samui. Longer waits at the connection add the most time.

Which airlines sell a single ticket from the UK to Samui?

British Airways (since August 2024), Thai Airways, Singapore Airlines, Qatar Airways, Emirates and Turkish Airlines all list Bangkok Airways connections to Samui, in most cases with the bag checked through. Partner lists change, so confirm Samui appears in the booking before you pay.

How long should my connection at Bangkok be?

Bangkok Airways quotes a 75-minute minimum on a through ticket, and another source says 90. After a long-haul arrival, 2-3 hours is safer because of immigration and passport queues. On separate tickets allow 4 hours and expect to collect and re-check your bag.

Is Manchester a good starting point for Samui?

Manchester has no confirmed nonstop to Bangkok, so you connect once, via Istanbul, Doha, Dubai, Abu Dhabi or a European hub, then fly Bangkok Airways. Fares from £573 are listed. It saves a trip to London and often costs less than a London return.

Can I still fly via Singapore in winter 2026/27?

Yes, but only on Scoot. Bangkok Airways pauses Singapore to Samui from 25 October 2026 to 28 March 2027. Scoot flies 4 times a day in about 2 hours. It is a separate ticket for most UK itineraries, so allow a 3 hour connection at Changi.

Checklist

Before you go

Three things worth checking for this journey, each with the guide that covers it.

  1. Book ahead for peak dates

Seats rarely sell out outside Christmas, New Year and Songkran, but the cheap fares go first. Book flights and peak-season boats well ahead.

    When to book
  2. Leave time for a self-transfer

On separate tickets a late first flight is your problem, not the airline's. Allow three to four hours in Bangkok.

    International connections
  3. Check the bag allowance

Budget airlines usually charge extra for checked bags, while Bangkok Airways economy includes 20 kg. Compare the final price with bags.
