TAT announced the Samui Coco Fest for 5 and 6 December 2017 at the Seaside Park in Hua Thanon village, with seafood and live jazz.
The Samui Coco Fest was a two-evening food and music event staged by the Tourism Authority of Thailand with Ko Samui's public and private organisations. It took place in the park by the sea at Hua Thanon, a village in the south-east of the island, and used the coconut as its theme. The name ties to local history: Samui was once known for having more coconut trees than anywhere else in Thailand.
Coconuts were Samui's main cash crop for about a century and became a symbol of the island, which is why a food festival in the 2017 season took the fruit as its hook. The authority pitched it under the slogan 'Open to the New Shades of Thailand', meaning the less familiar sides of each destination, here a village on the south coast instead of the tourist strips. The sources for this page cover only the 2017 announcement.

Songkran, on 13 to 15 April, is a water fight on the east coast, in Chaweng and Lamai, while west-coast villages keep a calmer, temple-centred version with blessings and merit-making. Loy Krathong falls on the November full moon, when people float small baskets on lakes and ponds. Chinese New Year brings feasting and temple visits. The Samui Festival has held a parade ending at Pru Chaweng Park. Expect restricted alcohol sales on holy days, and check dates a few weeks ahead.
Hua Thanon is a village on Samui's south-east coast, just south of Lamai. It is mainly a Muslim fishing community, founded more than 120 years ago by settlers from Malaysia, and it supplies much of the island's seafood through its covered fish market. Friday afternoons bring the congregational prayer at the village mosque. Evenings are for halal street food in the alleys, and few tourists come. The Seaside Park here hosted the 2017 Samui Coco Fest, with seafood and live jazz.
