Verdict: Silavadee Pool Spa Resort scores 7.4 out of 10

Silavadee Pool Spa Resort scores 7.4 out of 10 in the Samui69 file. It is an 80-key, 5-star hillside resort between Lamai and Chaweng Noi, and it suits couples, honeymooners and proposal trips that want a sea-view villa with a private pool and staff who anticipate requests. It is a poor match for swimmers who want a good beach, guests with reduced mobility and light sleepers: beach scores 4.5, access 3.8 and quiet 7.0. Rooms started around 5,500 THB (~157 USD) a night in the sources checked on 30 September 2026.

Method: 162 Tripadvisor reviews read one by one, 45% of them from the last 18 months. HolidayCheck, Booking.com and Agoda were used for aggregate scores only and were not read individually. Checked 30 September 2026. Every judgement below is what guests report or what the file shows.

What does the brochure say?

The resort opened in 2008 on a forested headland in Maret, in the stretch of coast between Lamai and Chaweng Noi. Published figures give 80 keys: 44 pool villas and 36 deluxe rooms. On paper: two infinity pools, four restaurants including Star and Height, a full-service spa, a small private cove, a cooking class, a Muay Thai ring, kayaks and snorkelling, a sauna and a free shuttle to Lamai and Chaweng. Parking is free on site.

A renovation ran from April 2025 to April 2026, so part of the file describes a hotel under works. The hotel lists Travelife Gold certification (2024) and an annual turtle release. Those are hotel claims: only one guest in the file mentions the topic, and that guest saw plastic wrapping despite the plastic-free promise. No pet policy was found. The official site is silavadeeresort.com.

What do guests actually report?

Platform scores sit high. Tripadvisor shows 4.6 out of 5 from 2,043 reviews. HolidayCheck shows 5.3 out of 6 from 179 reviews, with 80% recommending the hotel. Booking.com gives 9.0 out of 10 from 564 reviews and Agoda 9.0 from 2,949.

The 162-review sample explains why the Samui69 score lands lower than those headline numbers:

Category Mentions (+ / -) Score
Staff and service 75 / 10 9.4
Breakfast 40 / 8 9.3
Views 30 / 4 9.2
Couples and honeymoon 30 / 4 9.0
Condition and age 4 / 18 6.4
Quiet and privacy 14 / 20 7.0
Beach 8 / 15 4.5
Accessibility 4 / 6 3.8

Staff praise is the loudest signal: about 10 reviews name Chef Manee and 6 name the general manager, Tristan, as highlights, and guests describe daily gifts and requests met before they are made. The weak spots are physical. The file shows a service team that performs well inside a 2008 hillside property that was under construction for a year.

What are the villas and rooms like?

Rooms score 8.6 with 40 positive and 9 negative mentions. Guests describe spacious pool villas with big tubs, glass walls to the sea and terraces with daybeds. The negatives concern older jacuzzi rooms and tired woodwork. Some rooms look onto trees or neighbouring villas rather than open water, which is why views sit at 9.2 and not 10.

Sleep is a strength: Tripadvisor sleep quality is 4.7 out of 5 and 10 guests praise the beds, against 3 who mention neighbour or wedding noise. Cleanliness scores 8.8 (30 positive, 8 negative): twice-daily housekeeping is praised, with isolated mosquito and insect complaints, and one guest left early over insects. Bathrooms score 7.8: huge tubs, but sewer smell and dirty joints in some older rooms. Condition scores 6.4, the lowest physical score bar access: 18 guests call parts of the resort dated or tired.

How good are the pools and the beach?

Pools score 7.6 (25 positive, 9 negative). There are two infinity pools on the headland and private pools on 44 villas, the feature guests rate most. The negatives come from the works period: one pool closed, rust marks, and construction near the water.

The beach is the weakest of the big categories: 4.5, with 8 positive and 15 negative mentions. It is a small rocky cove with shallow water, tree shade, some dirt and few loungers. About 8 guests advise water shoes. Lamai beach is the swimming alternative, reachable by the free shuttle or a taxi. See the Lamai beach guide for the long sand strip, and Chaweng Noi for the small bay on the other side.

Location scores 6.3. The airport is about 30 minutes away, and Lamai and Chaweng need the shuttle (limited times) or a taxi. Read getting around Koh Samui for fares and options, and the airport guide for arrival.

What is the food, drink and spa like?

Breakfast is the best food story: 9.3 with 40 positive and 8 negative mentions. The buffet is joined by an a la carte list (lobster roll and acai are named), and gluten-free requests are reported as handled well. The recurring complaints are limited halal choice, pork-heavy items and a mostly cold buffet selection.

Restaurants score 8.0 (25 positive, 12 negative). The Thai kitchen under Chef Manee is praised; complaints cover slow service, a cold Wagyu dish, a weak burger and pricey in-room dining. The bar scores 6.3: sunset views are the draw, while guests report weak cocktails, short hours and a bar overwhelmed at busy times.

The spa scores 8.0 with 14 positive and 4 negative mentions: skilled therapists and “best massage” comments, balanced by hotel prices and building noise near the spa in 2025-26. Compare the island’s options in the spas and massage guide. Wellness scores 6.5: the private cooking class is loved (see cooking classes), kayaks and snorkelling are offered, a new sauna and Muay Thai ring were added, and yoga is rated weak. The gym was closed or moved during works, so the score of 6.0 rests on little data.

Where does Silavadee fall short?

Condition. 4 positive and 18 negative mentions. The property is 18 years old, and repeated “dated” and “needs restoration” comments come from guests who stayed before and during the works. The renovation ended in April 2026, so reviews after that date matter most; the file has few of them.

Noise. Quiet scores 7.0 with 14 positive and 20 negative mentions. At least 12 reviews from April 2025 to July 2026 mention construction: most call it minor, about 8 say it disturbed pools, noise or the spa. At least 3 guests report wedding events affecting the bar, restaurant or night noise, including music until 11:30 pm.

Access. The resort is a steep hillside with stairs and no lifts. Buggies are on call, but reduced mobility is a poor match: accessibility scores 3.8.

Beach. See above: 4.5, rocky and shallow.

Value. Value scores 7.0 (12 positive, 14 negative). Guests say the villas are worth it but that spa, dining and extras are pricey, and that full rates were charged during the works. Rooms ran from about 5,500 to 9,000 THB (~157-257 USD) in the sources checked, with a promotional rate seen at 3,669 THB (~105 USD).

Who should book, and who should not?

Book it if you are:

  • a couple or honeymooner who wants a private pool and sea views, with staff who fuss over proposals and anniversaries
  • a guest who values named, attentive staff and a strong breakfast
  • a traveller who will visit Lamai by shuttle for beach time and treat the resort as a retreat

Skip it if you are:

  • a swimmer who wants a good beach at the door
  • a guest with reduced mobility, or travelling with a pushchair
  • a light sleeper who is unhappy with wedding music, since the resort is a frequent wedding venue
  • looking for a kids club or an active programme: neither exists here

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Staff praised by name in dozens of reviews (75 positive against 10 negative)
  • Sea-view pool villas, a strong breakfast and a honeymoon and proposal setting
  • Comfortable beds and a cleanliness score of 8.8

Cons

  • Small rocky beach, weak for swimming (8 positive, 15 negative)
  • Ageing 2008 property with building noise from April 2025 to April 2026
  • Hillside with stairs and no lifts; a shuttle or taxi is needed for town

What are the alternatives?

  • Banyan Tree Samui: a few minutes along the same coast in Lamai. Bigger private pool villas and a top-tier spa, with rates from about 18,600 THB (~531 USD), more than three times Silavadee’s entry price. It shares the stony bay and the hillside buggies.
  • Conrad Koh Samui: a villa-only resort on the southwest coast with a private infinity pool and sunset view in every villa, from about 9,500 THB (~271 USD). Its hillside is very steep and isolated, and its beach is small and tide-dependent, so it repeats Silavadee’s main trade-offs.

FAQ

Is Silavadee Pool Spa Resort worth it?

The file scores it 7.4 out of 10. Guests say the villas, staff and breakfast justify 5-star rates, and value scores 7.0. The complaints are pricey extras and full rates charged while building work ran.

Does Silavadee have a beach?

It has a small rocky cove. Eight guests advise water shoes and guests report few loungers. For a proper swim, guests use Lamai beach by the free shuttle or a taxi.

Is the renovation finished?

The works ran from April 2025 to April 2026, and the Height restaurant has reopened. Reviews from before that date describe noise and closed facilities; the file has few later reviews, so ask the hotel what is open before you book.

Is Silavadee suitable for families or people with limited mobility?

Children are welcomed warmly, but there is no kids club. The hillside has stairs and no lifts, with buggies on call, and accessibility scores 3.8, so reduced mobility is a poor match.

What do the review platforms say?

Tripadvisor 4.6 out of 5 from 2,043 reviews (Tripadvisor page) and HolidayCheck 5.3 out of 6 from 179 reviews (HolidayCheck page). Both are higher than the Samui69 score because that score weights condition, quiet, beach and access, where the complaints gather.
