About this event

Thong Sala Saturday Walking Street takes over the road in front of Thong Sala Pier, the main arrival point on Koh Phangan. It starts at about 16:00 every Saturday and runs until late, with the busiest hours from 19:00 to 21:00. Dozens of local vendors sell Thai dishes, gifts and souvenirs.

Stalls offer grilled seafood, curries, vegan desserts, fresh fruit, handmade jewellery and artwork. There is live acoustic music by local and international musicians, fire dancers walk between the crowds and bartenders serve cocktails from mobile carts. Foot massage therapists are also on hand. Guides advise arriving early to get the best food before popular stalls sell out, and bringing cash because most vendors do not take cards. It is a market for the island's residents as well as visitors, and a good first or last stop if you are arriving by ferry.

Markets on Koh Phangan

Phangan's markets are weekend events tied to two villages. Thong Sala's Saturday walking street fills the road in front of the pier from about 16:00 until late, busiest between 19:00 and 21:00, with food, crafts and live music. The Phantip Night Food Market in Thong Sala runs nightly. On Sundays, Chaloklum on the north coast closes its main street from about 17:00 to 22:00, a smaller and more local market with seafood from the harbour. Bring cash, because most stalls do not take cards, and a scooter or taxi for Chaloklum.

Around Thong Sala

Thong Sala is Koh Phangan's port and main town, on the south-west coast, where ferries from Samui and Surat Thani arrive. It has banks, supermarkets and markets. On Saturdays the road in front of the pier becomes a walking street, and the Phantip Night Food Market runs nightly. Bluerama holds a Saturday sunset pool party here. Chinnarach Muay Thai Stadium is on San Jao Road, a source says a five-minute taxi ride or a 20-minute walk from the pier. Shared taxis and tuk-tuks run on from here to Haad Rin.
