Chaloklum Sunday Walking Street
About this event
Chaloklum Sunday Walking Street is the weekly night market of a working fishing village on the north coast of Koh Phangan. It runs on Sundays from about 17:00 to 22:00, along the village's main street and out onto the pier, so you eat with the boats and the bay in view. The Thai Holiday Guide lists entry as free.
The crowd is a mix of locals and the visitors who make the trip north, and the feel is closer to a village gathering than a tourist market. Stalls sell seafood landed by the village's own boats, Thai standards, vegetarian plates, pizza, grilled meats and sweets, with craft sellers, clothing and some live music. Guides place it about 20 minutes by scooter from Thong Sala, well away from the Haad Rin party scene, so sort out how you will get back before you go.

Markets on Koh Phangan
Phangan's markets are weekend events tied to two villages. Thong Sala's Saturday walking street fills the road in front of the pier from about 16:00 until late, busiest between 19:00 and 21:00, with food, crafts and live music. The Phantip Night Food Market in Thong Sala runs nightly. On Sundays, Chaloklum on the north coast closes its main street from about 17:00 to 22:00, a smaller and more local market with seafood from the harbour. Bring cash, because most stalls do not take cards, and a scooter or taxi for Chaloklum.
Around Chaloklum
Chaloklum is a fishing village on Phangan's north coast, set on a semicircular bay a few kilometres wide. Malibu Beach lies on the west side of the bay, and the pier is home to long-tail boats that fish for squid and tuna. Its weekly event is the Sunday walking street, from about 17:00 to 22:00, with fresh seafood and Thai dishes in a local setting. A source puts it at 20 to 30 minutes by scooter from Thong Sala, so most visitors go by scooter or taxi.
