About this event

Dutch trumpeter Michael Varekamp and his quintet played a jazz evening at the InterContinental Koh Samui Resort on Tuesday 28 April 2026. The concert was held at the resort's Air Bar, with a view over the Gulf of Thailand, as part of Samui Summer Jazz 2026. The programme was titled "From New Orleans to New York".

Varekamp is a trumpeter, singer, composer and bandleader from Rotterdam who has toured with the Dutch Swing College Band and Scott Hamilton, among others. He was joined by fellow Dutch musician Alexander Beets. The listing used the title Jazz Rhythms in the Air for the evening, while the resort's own announcement named the programme. It was a one-night concert in a hotel bar rather than a festival, and tickets were listed on Megatix.

Live music on Koh Samui

Live music on Samui is spread across the evening bar strips rather than one venue. Chaweng Beach Road has bars with house bands playing rock, reggae and pop covers, plus a small jazz club. Lamai leans towards reggae and rock bands, and Bophut's Fisherman's Village suits a quieter drink with a singer or duo. Larger club nights bring in visiting international performers, usually announced a few weeks ahead on the club's own channels. Resorts also host jazz and beach concerts now and then. Most nights start late, so expect the main acts after 22:00.
